Recent and Current Events

  • BBEF Annual Meeting March 13, 2023  This is our chance to  celebrate our Giving Projects for 2022, which were largely intact in spite of difficulties caused by the pandemic.  We also look forward to approving our next round of educational projects for  Tigard-Tualatin and Sherwood schools.  We will look forward to awarding grants for women educators in Oregon completing their academic work.   Changes to the Bylaws will be presented, and approved (or not)  via electronic voting!
  • We put on an in-person  Fall Auction, along with a Virtual Silent Auction, netting over $8000 to keep providing funding for our Dictionary project and Financial Aid program.
  • Our Annual Lasagna Dinner was a fundraiser this year, with orders for our famous Lasagna and super-rich cheesy French bread being sold and distributed.  Profits of $900 benefitted the foundation and our many projects for teachers and students.

On-Going Achievements

Dictionaries:  The Literacy Committee delivered 342 dictionaries and bookmarks to
elementary schools in the Sherwood School District. Nancy McCusker and Dorene
Steffeck delivered cases of books on Monday, October 3, and teachers will distribute
them in their classrooms. This year we again included a dictionary scavenger hunt to encourage students to engage with their dictionary. Many thanks to Dorene who ordered, stamped, and stuffed the books with the scavenger hunt questions and the bookmarks.  Thanks, too, to Barbara King who provided Beta Beta brochures that we included for
every third grade teacher. Nancy contacted all elementary school secretaries for class counts and set up the delivery date with each school. She also wrote a letter to third grade teachers explaining the Dictionary Project and provided information about Beta Beta and DKG. Secretaries were so pleased to see us and thanked us for once again bringing dictionaries for the third grade students.
Since 2012 - we have given out 4,377 dictionaries to 3rd grade students!!
